What happens when we come to measure

What we look at, what we ask, how long it takes, and what a written quote should contain so you can compare like with like.

A measure is not someone writing down six numbers. The numbers are the easy part; the decisions are what the visit is for.

Here is what actually happens, so nothing about the visit is a surprise.

What we look at

The reveal depth, and whether the blind will sit inside it or over the face. That single decision changes how much light leaks around the edges and how the window looks.

What the window is made of and where the fixings can go. Older wooden reveals and modern aluminium joinery want different brackets.

Which way the room faces, and what it is used for. A west-facing lounge and a south-facing bedroom want different fabrics, even at the same size.

What we ask

What the room is used for and when. Whether anyone sleeps in it during the day. Whether the window is opened, and whether there is furniture in the way.

Whether you want the blinds to match something already in the house, and whether this is one window or a whole-house job.

What the quote should tell you

Every opening listed separately with its size, the product and the fabric, and the price for that window. If a quote is one number with no breakdown, you cannot compare it or decide to drop a room.

Whether installation is included, and whether the price holds if you change one window later. Ask, because the answers differ between companies.

How long it takes

The measuring itself is quick. The conversation about fabrics and options is what takes the time, and it is worth taking.

Questions about this

Is the measure really free?

Yes, in-home and free, with a minimum of five blinds, and no obligation to order.

Do I need to have decided on a fabric first?

No. That is what the visit is for. Seeing the options against your own window is the point.

Can you quote from photos?

For a rough idea, sometimes. For a real quote, no: photos hide the reveal depth and the fixing, which are what decide whether a blind will work.
