A roman blind is fabric that folds into horizontal pleats as it lifts, so you get the softness of a curtain with the neat fit of a blind. Closed, it sits flat against the window; open, the folds stack at the top of the reveal.
It suits rooms where a plain roller looks too hard against the window: living rooms with a lot of upholstery, bedrooms with generous curtains elsewhere, older homes with tall joinery. The fabric carries the look, so we bring samples and open them against the light in your own room.
Roman Blinds in Mangere
Mangere is 16 minutes from our workshop, close to the airport and the Manukau harbour. A mix of older weatherboard homes and newer infill townhouses.
That shapes what we recommend. We measure the actual windows, look at which way they face and how the room is used, and quote on that rather than on a brochure. If you also want shutters in the same rooms, we can quote both on the one visit.
How it works on your windows
Fabric that does the work
Lined or unlined, in a cloth that hangs properly rather than standing away from the window.

The pleats stack neatly at the top instead of a tube of fabric above the glass.
More on roman blinds Auckland →Lining choice matters
A lined roman softens the room and blocks more light; an unlined one keeps it light and airy.

We come to you in Mangere, measure every opening and talk through the options in the room where they will hang.
Made to measure
Your roman blinds are made for your windows, not trimmed down from a standard size.
Installed
We fit and adjust them, then check every one works properly before we leave.
Questions we get in Mangere
Do you charge for a measure in Mangere?
No. The in-home measure and quote is free across Mangere, with a minimum of five blinds or coverings, and no obligation. Mangere is 16 minutes from our Manurewa workshop.
Are roman blinds hard to operate?
No, they run on a chain or a cord like any other blind, and the folds follow as it lifts. We check the operation on installation and adjust the tension.
Can a roman blind be blockout?
Yes, with a blockout lining. It will not be as dark as a proper blockout roller because of the way the fabric folds, so for a bedroom that needs full darkness we usually suggest a roller behind it.
Do they suit a kitchen or bathroom?
Less well than a roller or an aluminium venetian, because fabric in a steamy room is a harder life. We will say so rather than sell you one.
How are they measured?
Inside the reveal or over the face, depending on the window depth and whether there is a sill or a handle to clear. That is a measure-on-site decision.
