An outdoor blind is a weather-rated fabric on a heavier system, fitted to the house rather than the window: over a deck, a patio, or the end of a covered outdoor room. It gives you shade and wind protection when you want it, and rolls up out of the way when you do not.
The measurement is the critical part. These are big spans, exposed to wind, so the fixing points, the drop and the fabric weight all have to suit the structure they are going onto, and that has to be seen on site.
Outdoor Blinds in Silverdale
Silverdale is 49 minutes from our workshop, north of Albany, inland from the coast. New subdivisions with big homes and a lot of glass.
That shapes what we recommend. We measure the actual windows, look at which way they face and how the room is used, and quote on that rather than on a brochure. If you also want shutters in the same rooms, we can quote both on the one visit.
How it works on your windows
Shade where the sun lands
West-facing decks are the usual job: the blind drops for the afternoon and lifts for the evening.

These carry wind load, so we look at what the blind is going onto before quoting.

A proper outdoor blind fabric handles sun and rain far better than a shade sail or a cheap screen.

Questions we get in Silverdale
Do you charge for a measure in Silverdale?
No. The in-home measure and quote is free across Silverdale, with a minimum of five blinds or coverings, and no obligation. Silverdale is 49 minutes from our Manurewa workshop.
Can it stay out in the wind?
No, and this is the thing people get wrong. An outdoor blind should be retracted in strong wind. We will explain the limits for the system you choose and where to site it to reduce exposure.
Do I need a covered area?
It helps a lot. A blind under an eave or a louvre roof lasts longer and behaves better than one fully exposed to Auckland weather.
How is it operated?
Manual crank or motorised, depending on the width and height. Wide spans are usually motorised because cranking a large blind is hard work.
Can you fit one to a rental?
Sometimes, but fixings into the structure need the owner's agreement. We will tell you what is involved before anything is ordered.
