Vertical blinds are the practical answer for wide openings, especially ranchsliders and big windows in rentals. The louvres hang vertically, tilt for light and privacy, and part in the middle so you can walk straight through.
They are also the cheapest way to cover a lot of glass, and the easiest to repair when a tenant, a child or a dog takes out a couple of louvres, because the slats replace individually rather than the whole blind.
