Venetian blinds are horizontal slats in a frame, tilted with a wand or a cord. Tilted flat you get privacy and a soft light; tilted open you get the view and airflow. Nothing else gives you that much fine control for the money.
They earn their place in kitchens, bathrooms, rentals and offices, where the surface needs to be wipeable rather than fabric. Aluminium is the usual choice; timber and faux-wood give a warmer look in a living room.
Venetian Blinds in Mount Wellington
Mount Wellington is 24 minutes from our workshop, off the motorway between Ellerslie and Panmure. Older housing mixed with light industrial, and new townhouses going in.
That shapes what we recommend. We measure the actual windows, look at which way they face and how the room is used, and quote on that rather than on a brochure. If you also want shutters in the same rooms, we can quote both on the one visit.
How it works on your windows
Tilt, don't close
You keep the view and the airflow while cutting the glare, which is why they suit kitchens and offices.

A damp cloth along the slats. No fabric to spot-clean, which matters in a kitchen or a rental.

Narrow slats read as a modern commercial finish, wider ones as a warmer domestic look.

Questions we get in Mount Wellington
Do you charge for a measure in Mount Wellington?
No. The in-home measure and quote is free across Mount Wellington, with a minimum of five blinds or coverings, and no obligation. Mount Wellington is 24 minutes from our Manurewa workshop.
Aluminium or timber?
Aluminium for kitchens, bathrooms, rentals and anywhere it will get wiped. Timber or faux-wood where you want the grain and warmth of a living room, and where the window is not in a wet area.
Do they rattle?
Cheap ones do. A properly fitted venetian has the right number of ladder cords for the width and a bottom rail with tension, and we check that on installation.
How much light do they let in?
More than a roller when tilted open, less when closed flat. They are not a blockout product, so a bedroom that needs darkness is better with a roller.
Can they be used on a ranchslider?
Verticals usually work better because you can walk through them. A venetian across a door that is used constantly gets knocked about.
